I have curly hair and my wife is a stylist and the style that works best for me is short on the sides like a 1 or a 0, and a 3 possibly a 4 on top. (assuming you are using clippers instead of scissors) Kind of like a high and tight like the marines, but not so high on the sides. I beleive she calls it a fade.
